Conference calls are often impacted by market trends, geopolitical conditions, news coming from conferences and economic releases.

(By Philip Holmes) Stocks finished mixed on Monday as investors mulled recent moves by Warren "Bubblegum" Buffet and Kirk "Pinto" Kerkorian. They also thought about the immediate future and of Ben "Prime Cut" Bernanke. Investors drove Ford shares up 9% after they learned that the ever humble Kirk Kerkorian and his Tracinda Corp. planned to buy up to 20% of the company, the automaker who came back from the near dead to post a profit in the recent quarter. Kirk plans buying his stake in Pinto Palace for $8.50 per share. This news was almost enough to call a hasty end to the recession and usher in a new bubble. The chewable kind. Candymaker Mars agreed to buy Wrigley in a deal worth around $23 billion, with Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway, Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan Chase funding the deal. All this excitement wasn't enough to spark a rally, though. Investors await rate cut news from the Federal Reserve, which begins a two-day meeting on Tuesday. Cheering us all up in the meantime is BusinessWeek's Ben Steverman, who chronicled the overall drop in stocks that's occurred since October. According to the report over 80% of companies in the S&P 500 index have fallen in value since then. The biggest losers, as you might guess, have been the financial stocks. Bear Stearns famously lost 90% of its value, while National City weighed in with a market cap loss of 76%. Countrywide Financial lost 70.74% and $7.88 billion, while E*Trade Financial lost 70.5% and $4.2 billion. Those are the kind of dogs that really stick to your shoe.
