California Rough Rice Stocks Up 5 Percent from October 2004
Rough rice stocks in all positions on October 1, 2005, totaled
5.06 million hundredweight (cwt), up 5 percent from the total on
October 1, 2004. California rough rice stocks were down 52 percent
from the August 1, 2005 level. Long grain varieties accounted for
nearly 4 percent of the total rough rice, medium grain accounted
for 87 percent, and short grain varieties accounted for 9 percent.
Milled rice stocks in all positions totaled 848,000 cwt, 57 percent
above a year ago. Milled rice stocks were comprised of 396,000 cwt
of whole kernel rice and 452,000 cwt of second heads, screenings,
and brewers rice.
