INDONESIA'S PTPN XI AIMS TO PRODUCE 480,000 TONS OF SUGAR

SURABAYA, E Java, May 02, 2008 (AsiaPulse via COMTEX) -- State plantation company PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN) XI has set itself a target of producing 480,000 tons of sugar in the 2008 milling season, its corporate secretary said.

The sugar production would come from more than 81,000 hectares of sugarcane plantations managed by the company, Adig Suwandi said here on Thursday.

Last year, PTPN XI produced 432,000 tons of sugar.

"The sugar output accounts for round 18 per cent of the 2007 national sugar production of 2.44 million tons," he said.

PTPN XI currently runs 16 sugarmills which have a combined milling capacity of 36,000 tons of sugarcane per day.

Some of the sugar mills would start working in mid May, he said.
