Balochistan to get 3 lakh ton wheat from Punjab

LAHORE, May 08, 2008 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) -- Punjab government will provide three lakh ton wheat to Balochisan to overcome the flour crisis, while it is already providing 70,000 ton wheat to NWFP province, which has got already 3000 ton wheat.

It was revealed by a senior official of the Punjab Food Department, while talking on the condition of anonymity here on Tuesday.

The official sources told that the Punjab government was supplying the wheat on the request of both the provinces.

Punjab will provide three lakh ton wheat to Balochistan and now it depends on the province that when it will get the wheat quota. We had received a request from the NWFP government too for 70,000 ton wheat but now they have demanded for more wheat due to flour crisis in the province. Punjab will now provide 20,000 ton wheat in first phase and 7 lakh ton in second phase to NWFP for their requirement, official sources said.

On the other hand, food department has procured 12,75000 ton wheat, while the target has been fixed for 30,00,000 ton wheat for this season. Two districts including Gurjranwala has procured 90,000 ton while Sheikhpura procured 750,00 and both districts have completed their targets, official sources added. To a query the sources said that food department has stopped the release of wheat quota to flourmills and it would resume the flour quota to them in month of October.
