Slaughter Cattle:
Summary of Wisconsin livestock auction at Bloomington, Tuesday, May 6, 2008. 

Receipts:  cattle    800   calves  50

Compared to Mondays auctions, slaughter cows were steady to firm.
Demand good.  Supply 15 percent slaughter cows.

Premium White    65-75 percent    over 1400 lbs.  60.00-64.50              
Breakers         75-80 percent    over 1250 lbs.  55.00-60.50              
Boners           80-85 percent    over 1100 lbs.  52.00-56.00

Holstein slaughter steers: 
Choice and Prime 2-3 1300-1700 lbs.    88.00-93.00 
Choice 2-3 1200-1700 lbs.              84.50-88.50
Select and Choice 2-3 1100-1500 lbs.   79.00-84.50 
Select 2-3 1000-1350 lbs.              74.00-77.50

Slaughter steers: Choice 2-3 1100-1450 lbs.  91.50-96.00 
       Select and Choice 2-3 1000-1400 lbs.  87.00-91.50 

Slaughter heifers: Choice 2-3 1100-1400 lbs.   92.00-95.50 
        Select and Choice 2-3 1000-1400 lbs.   86.00-90.00


Vealers were not tested. Replacement Holstein bull calves were steady to 
weak.  Replacement Holstein heifer calves not tested.  Demand for
replacement Holstein bull calves moderate, not tested for replacement
Holstein heifer calves, and not tested for vealers. Near 100 percent were 
sold to replacement accounts.

Replacement Holstein bull calves: 100-120 lbs.   80.00-110.00 

Dairy Cattle:
Summary of Wisconsin dairy auction at Stratford, Wisconsin, Tue. May 6, 2008.
 
Holsteins unless otherwise stated. 
Prices per head, unless otherwise stated.
Receipts:  300 head, Last sale 325 head, Last year 250 head
Demand: moderate, with moderate buyer attendance. 
Quality was moderate at best.
Warmer temperatures limited the number of buyers and the supply of quality replacement 
cattle.
Prices were weak to 100.00 lower compared to the last reported sale.
There were few quality open heifers available for sale. The sale had numerous high CMT 
count cows selling from 700.00-1000.00 per head.
Supply: 20% Fresh Milking Cows, 30% Bred Cows, 30% Bred Heifers, 
20% Open Heifers  

Fresh Milking Cows: 3-6 years old. 
                  Medium  - 1500.00-2075.00      
                  Common  - 1050.00-1500.00 
                 
Springing Cows:  (Bred 8-9 months). 
                 Medium   -  1650.00-2000.00
                 Common   -  1125.00- 1600.00

Bred Cows:       (Bred 4-7 months)  
                  Common  - 1075.00-1400.00

Short Bred Cows: (Bred 1-3 months)
                  Medium  - 1575.00-1800.00
                  Common  - 1000.00-1250.00

Springing Heifers:  (Bred 8-9 months), lightly tested
                  Medium   - 1900.00-2025.00, individual 2300.00 
                  Common   - 1275.00-1450.00

                 Medium   - 1700.00-2100.00
