VIETNAMESE NEWSPAPER HIGHLIGHTS - MAY 9, 2008

HANOI, May 09, 2008 (AsiaPulse via COMTEX) -- Highlights of today's newspapers:

ALL DAILIES:

- The 12th National Assemblys third working day: the Government presented two bills and a report on the results of the five-year vocational training and job generation programme for former drug addicts.

TIN TUC:

- The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Investment and Planning granted a licence to develop the Saigon Commodity and Service Joint Stock Co (SCSC) with an initial charter capital of VND300 billion (US$18.7 million).

The company, founded by Gemadept Joint Stock Company with a capital contribution ratio of 23 percent, will trade in a range of commodities, including oil and gas, transport, and real estate.

SAI GON GIAI PHONG:

- Vietnam to join global efforts to stabilise rice price. The Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokesman answered the press about an initiative to establish an organisation of rice export countries.

- The US$2 million Vietnam-RoK Peace Village to be built in central Quang Nam province.

- An additional 400 million USD to be poured into the Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park.

NHAN DAN:

- The Vietnam-Ukraine Inter-government Committee for Economic, Trade and Scientific Cooperation signed the minute of its ninth meeting.

- Military-run mobile phone operator Viettel donated 20,000 USD to Myanmar s cyclone victims.

LAO DONG:

- Sanyo starts construction of a plant producing electronic components in northern Bac Giang province.

QUAN DOI NHAN DAN:

- Israel assists Vietnam in training on web security.

THOI BAO KINH TE VIETNAM:

- Vietnam did not dump textile and apparels. The Vietnam Textiles and Apparels Association reported that the US Department of Commerce on May 6 announced its second review of garment and apparel imports from Vietnam, saying it had no evidence to automatically initiate a anti-dumping investigation.
