Peshawar, May 08, 2008 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) -- NWFP Minister for Agriculture Arbab Muhammad Ayub Jan has said that due to ignoring the development of agriculture sector in the past, the provincial economy has badly damaged and paralyzed and that is why 42% people are living under the poverty line. This he said while addressing a reception given in his honour by Haji Aslam Khan and Raja Bashir Khan at Tarnab Farm Peshawar. MNAs Arbab Zahir Khan, Munir Khan Orakzai, ex MNA Arbab Saadullah Khan, Arbab Umer Khan, Arbab Zubair Khan, Haji Noor Muhammad Khan, DG Agriculture Rahim Khan, DG Agriculture Research Institute Dr. Nasiruddin were also present on the occasion. Arbab Ayub Jan said that the present government was keen to give due attention to the development of agriculture sector and for the purpose 2.5 million acre land waste cultivated land would be developed for cultivation of wheat, fruits and other crops so that the province could become self sufficient in wheat as well as in other crops. He said that out of 2.5 million acre land, two lakh acre land would be leveled during he coming fiscal year and for the purpose a fleet of hundred tractors and bulldozers were being purchased, he added. The Provincial Minister said that the NWFP province was fertile for cultivation of fruit and vegetables as only 48% of fruits were produced in our province but due to non-availability of proper preservation, most of them get wasted. He said that the provincial government was actively considering establishing an international fruit market from where fruit and vegetable could be provided to the Central Asian Republic as well as to Middle East and other Asian countries. He said to boost up the economy of the province, olive and almond orchids were being developed in various parts of the province. |
