USDA-MD: Wisconsin Auction Summary

Summary of Wisconsin livestock auctions at Altoona, Thursday, May 8, 2008. 

Receipts:  cattle  200  calves 150 

Compared to Wednesday's auctions, slaughter cows were weak to 1.00 lower. 
Demand good.   Supply 85 percent slaughter cows.
  
Slaughter cows:  Percent lean     Weight            Bulk
Premium White    65-75 percent    over 1400 lbs.  61.00-65.00 lightly tested
Breakers         75-80 percent    over 1250 lbs.  57.00-61.00
Boners           80-85 percent    over 1100 lbs.  52.00-57.00
Lean             85-90 percent    over 1000 lbs.  47.00-52.00, few 53.00
Low Dressing Lean 85-90 percent   over 1000 lbs.  42.00-47.00

Holstein slaughter steers: 
Select and Choice 2-3 1100-1500 lbs.   78.50-83.25 lightly tested
Select 2-3 1100-1300 lbs.              73.00-75.00 lightly tested

Slaughter bulls: Y.G. 1-2  1500-2100 lbs   62.00-66.00
                           1000-1500 lbs   58.00-60.00

Veal calves were weak to 10.00 lower.  Replacement Holstein Bull calves were weak to 10.00 
lower. Replacement Holstein heifer calves weak.  Demand for Replacement Holstein bull 
calves light, moderate to good for Replacement Holstein heifer calves, and  light for veal 
calves. Near 90% sold to replacement accounts.

Veal calves: Good and Choice boning type: 90-110 lbs 20.00-35.00       
                                          70- 90 lbs 20.00-35.00

Replacement Holstein bull calves: 100-120 lbs 80.00-110.00               
                                   90-100 lbs 60.00- 95.00, few 100.00 
                                  120-140 lbs 70.00-100.00

Replacement Holstein heifer calves:  90-120 lbs 500.00-620.00 lightly tested.
