Compared with last week direct feeder steers and heifers traded firm
to 2.00 higher. Demand continues good. The Dakotas continue to get
spring rains, in some parts of the state causing flooding. Corn
planting remains behind with farmers estimating a 10-15 percent lag
from seasonal norms. All sales FOB North and South Dakota with a 2-3
percent shrink or equivalent and a 4-6 cent slide on yearlings and a
5-10 cent slide on calves from base weights. Steers comprised 69 percent
of the confirmed sales; heifers 31 percent. Supply 100 percent over 600
lbs.
