KARACHI, May 09, 2008 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) -- Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has issued directives to the administration and law-enforcement agencies for keeling a vigilant eye on prices of flour and other commodities so that no one could indulge in profiteering and initiate strict action against the elements involved in hoarding of wheat. He gave these directives while presiding over a high-level meeting at Chief Ministers House on Thursday. The chief minister observed common men was facing great hardships due to illegal stocking of daily used items and over charging on their prices. He asked them to immediately evolve a strategy in this regard, so that such anti-social elements were dealt strictly. He also gave approval to the provincial food department to transport wheat from one district to other so that supply of wheat could sustained from Karachi. The meeting resolved to approach the Prime Minister to seek his support for tracking down the elements causing artificial shortage of wheat. Qaim Ali Shah gave instructions for enhancing efficiency of the magistrates and market committees and reviewing rates of daily use items on daily basis. Praising performance of provincial food department and minister for food Mir Nadir Magsi for achieving procurement target of 422000-martic tons wheat, he expressed the hope that prices of daily items would similarly be brought under control. Minister for food Mir Nadir Magsi and food department authorities apprised him in details about efforts for procurement of wheat. District Coordination Officer, Karachi, Javed Hanif, informed the chief minister that prices of essential commodities were being checked deeply and action against hoarders and profiteers was also underway. Chief secretary Fazlur Rehman, IGP Sindh Shoaib Suddle, home secretary Arif Khan, food secretary Ejaz Ali Khan, secretary to chief minister Syed Sohail Akbar Shah and others attended the meeting. |
