Arrest in smash and grabs: 1 arrested, police search for teen

Nov 07, 2009 (The Wilson Daily Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Wilson police have arrested one man in a recent smash and grab robbery at the Wilson mall and are searching for a second suspect.

Alzavion Jaquell Randolph, 20, of 2230 St. Andrews St., Tarboro, was arrested and charged with felony larceny in connection with the Sept. 15 robbery at Salsha Jewels and Accessories, according to Officer Kolly Burritt, spokeswoman.

Police believe Randolph also was involved with stealing approximately $300 worth of merchandise from Rugged Wearhouse on Sept. 30. He was charged with misdemeanor larceny.

On Oct. 28, Randolph was arrested in Pitt County and charged with felony larceny and injury to personal property for his alleged participation in another smash and grab at Gems and Gold in the Greenville Mall on Oct. 15. He was placed in the Pitt County Detention Center on a $2,000 bond for all charges in the two counties. He posted bond and was released on Oct. 29.

Randolph is scheduled to appear in court in Wilson County on Nov. 16 and in court on Nov. 18 in Pitt County.

A check of the N.C. Dept. of Correction Web site did not reveal any prior criminal convictions for Randolph. But according to the Administrative Office of the Courts, he has a charges pending in Edgecombe County. Those charges include misdemeanor assault on a female, misdemeanor larceny, misdemeanor resisting a public officer, two counts of driving while license revoked, misdemeanor injury to personal property, misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon, felonious obtaining property by false pretense, operating a vehicle with no insurance, expired registration card and speeding. Most of those charges are scheduled for disposition in November.

A second suspect, Kenquonis McKenzie, 16, of 402 E. Northern Blvd., Tarboro, is still being sought for the smash and grabs in Greenville and Wilson along with stealing merchandise at Rugged Warehouse.

McKenzie has cases pending in Pitt County for felony larceny, felonious possession of a firearm on educational property and felony possession of a firearm. Those court dates are scheduled for February. He also has charges pending in Edgecombe County for simple affray and robbery with a dangerous weapon. Those court dates are scheduled for Dec. 9 and June 26, respectively.

If anyone has any information about these cases, or the whereabouts of McKenzie, contact the Wilson Police Department at 399-2323, Wilson Crime Stoppers at 243-2255, or the Greenville Police Department at 329-4335.
